(A avut norocul sa obtina o avere si a vrut sa ajute si alti oameni n.a.)

Microsoft a cumparat guvernul

– a declarat Ronald Binkofski, CEO Microsoft Romania.

Microsoft’s conduct over the last two decades has demonstrated Microsoft’s willingness and ability to engage in unlawful conduct to protect and extend its core monopolies. This conduct has caused real harm to consumers, who continue to pay high prices and use lower quality products than would have prevailed in a competitive market. By understanding Microsoft’s history of anticompetitive conduct, developers, consumer groups, and government authorities will be better equipped to recognize current and future Microsoft misconduct at an early stage and intervene to prevent Microsoft from using tactics other than competition on the merits.

7’55”: Of the course of 2 decades, Microsoft has established a near-monopoly over PC operating systems and used that monopoly to gain a vicelike grip over the entire computer industry.

8’13”: Bill Gates thought that the information highway should be a tollroad, on which Microsoft controlled all the toll gates.

9’49”: the company’s rise has left a trail of corpses in its wake – Lotus, Word Perfect, Borland, Novell, even IBM… all, brought to their knees.

37’45”: the Government of the United States… came to believe that Gates was not a hero, but a kind of high-tech terrorist.

Software Terrorist

Bill Gates is renowned for his harsh business tactics, but the true extent of his behind the scenes maneuvering is poorly known. The popular software programs Netscape and WordPerfect are two of Microsoft’s most famous victims, being largely replaced by Microsoft’s Internet Explorer and Word.

Tactics employed by Microsoft include what might be loosely termed monopolism, FUD, a so-called patent war and coercion, with many reports of corruption. The charges are generally leveled at Microsoft, rather than Bill Gates. However, many observers regard Microsoft as little more than an extension of Bill Gates’ personality. Gates certainly isn’t known to apologize for Microsoft’s excesses, let alone take the lead in cleaning up its act.

Microsoft has been widely accused of exploiting blackmail. For example, it has threatened to sue companies it claims are infringing on Microsoft patents without revealing what those patents are. Microsoft has even been accused of blackmailing schools.

http://tv.sys-con.com/node/44347 - Scott McNealy, CEO Sun Microsystems SUA:

“It really is mankind against Microsoft. And mankind needs a bit of a break right now. ... The market economy has got to win over the planned economy. And the Internet -- the open Internet -- has got to win. But [if the government doesn't enforce the law], well, bad things can happen to good people.”

The US embassy in Brussels had contacted Kroes and asked her to be a bit 'nicer' to Microsoft before she had taken the decision to fine Microsoft in July, Kroes said in an interview.

Kroes defined the US government's move as 'an intervention which cannot stand... Like all companies great and small, Microsoft is not above the law.'

"Microsoft has demonstrated that it will use its prodigious market power and immense profits to harm any firm that insists on pursuing initiatives that could intensify competition against one of Microsoft's core products. ... The ultimate result is that some innovations that would truly benefit consumers never occur for the sole reason that they do not coincide with Microsoft's self-interest." - Judge Thomas Penfield Jackson in the Microsoft antitrust trial.

In heart-to-heart chats with selected journalists brought into his chambers, Jackson served up quotable but unflattering comments about Microsoft, at one point likening company executives, including Bill Gates, to "drug traffickers" and "gangland killers."

Brin saved his strongest criticisms for Microsoft, which he said had capitulated to the Chinese government and trampled over human rights merely in an attempt to score points over Google. Microsoft and the Russian police look like strange bedfellows. But are they? Microsoft authorized representatives have declared that they could not oppose the Russian police move while the Seattle based company had to play by the Russian law. Such an ambiguous declaration may be interpreted both ways as an active support to the Russian police or a passive collaboration. Clearly, human right activists in Russia should not count Microsoft as an ally to build a more open society.

Even as Microsoft comes under criticism for taking part in software piracy cases against advocacy groups and opposition newspapers in Russia, it is also facing separate accusations that some private lawyers representing the company are involved in corruption schemes. An international anticorruption group, Transparency International, and a major Russian human rights groups, Memorial, contend that some private lawyers retained by Microsoft in Russia were helping corrupt law-enforcement officials to extort money from the targets of piracy inquiries.
